World Master: Digital RPG Environment

World Master: Digital RPG Environment is our newest project where we hope to achieve a bridge between the digital world and tabletop RPGs. Using Unity as our base we will develop World Master with a myriad of features never seen before. Things like a 2d/3d game board with battle field simulation, optional AI for simple enemies with random terrain generation, RPG rule set importer and configuration, 3rd party content creator/browser, Configurable GM tools, experimental Player VS GM game mode, Game server and campaign browser, and finally, Mobile and Web applications/tools. World Master will have something to offer GMs playing in person and through the program.

Two dimensions to three

World Master will have a game board where everything that works on the 3d board can also work on a 2d plane, so that less powerful computers can still run World Master without any loss in performance. It will be easy to switch between the 2 perspectives, and when switching to the 3d world, the tokens and images become models and minis. In the future, we plan on giving these models support for animations, along with different states like being dead, on fire, and things of the sort. Effects and lighting will be simulated on the board, meaning you don’t have to actually do the vision calculations yourself. Finally, “I have dark vision” isn’t going to annoy the GM. Using the 3rd party content browser you can also download and use high-quality models for your games.

Let the computer do the work

With the gain of processing power, new tools have just come on the table. One of the most useful will be the ability to give simple AI to enemies and let the computer generate combat arenas. When running a boss fight it can be hard to keep track of every minion, or when having large fights all the enemies can be overwhelming for the GM. With simple AI, you won’t have to spend time thinking about what they’re going to do because the computer can do it for you. You can finally focus entirely on what the boss will do so you can TPK all your players! Red Crystal knows that the GMs time is incredibly valuable, and that’s why World Master will also generate arenas for your “random encounters” You can drop your players in an environment that fits where they were when the encounter happened, giving you time to focus on the enemies or other events that are soon to come. The GM doesn’t even have to participate in the fight, as they can start an encounter and let the AI do all the fighting, giving the GM precious time to do what’s needed.

Rules are meant to be broken

Not every rule set plays the same, and so different rules change how World Master functions. Instead of just dropping a new rule book into your campaign, you select the rules for your game at campaign start and can change how they work after the campaign is generated. We at Red Crystal plan on spending time with each game system to make sure it works properly and is of the highest quality when it’s used. We unfortunately cannot give these digital rule books out, and so we will have to sell them on our digital store. Purchasing a book on our store will give you the content related to the book when you add it to your campaign. We can however give you Shattered Infinity since that’s our own system. More information on Shattered Infinity can be found at the bottom of the page.

When life gives you 3rd party content

You make 3rd party content-ade. World Master will come with a 3rd party content browser. Giving GMs the ability to get new tools to help make the game theirs. World Master will also come with its own set of tools that are unique to the program, but if that’s not enough you can always get more. We plan on allowing models, tools, creatures, races, classes, spells, items, and more to be added to the content browser. When adding your special creation, you’ll have to pick a game system the content works with as well as some other settings to make sure that your content fits right where it should. We plan on allowing huge packs of content the chance to go onto the workshop with a price, so that GMs who spend weeks crafting a really detailed campaigns and worlds can make money off their effort. We hope this allows high-quality content from 3rd parties to thrive through the program, that would otherwise have never been made.

Tools to command your world

Being a GM is hard, especially when you have entire notebooks to flip through trying to find how you craft that one potion again. That’s why World Master will have variety of tools that make using the program easier. GMs who play in person can still benefit from having these tools available to help run their world, no players needed. An adaptable initiative and combat screen showing the GM who’s up next, who’s most injured, who does the most damage on average, who has the highest armor class, and other neat bits of information. A notebook is also available to both GMs and players so you can keep track of your adventures. A fully customizable calendar is also available so the players and GM know today is the festival of big red crystals. Odd, I thought that was every day. In the future, we would love to add things like a city resource tracker so you know how expensive certain goods are based on the geological location and scarcity. Features that are more akin to a simulator are something a that World Master will bring. Ever wanted to know how many guards are in your capital city, so you can calculate how many guards your evil party will have to fight through? Well based on the city population size and draft rate, World Master can tell you. If you don’t like the numbers go ahead and change them, then check in 100 years later and see how many guards there are then.

You've killed one too many

The sky changes color, as the ground shakes violently. You thought you could get away with killing the gods disciples, but you were wrong. Now all of reality is bending backwards to watch you die. It’s about time the gods got their revenge, and can you blame them? This experimental game mode is more like a video game than a classic TT RPG, where the GM is actively trying to kill the players. Using the random terrain generator, the GM gets to spend his power picking the terrain and the enemies inside. If the players beat the round they steal some of the gods power, allowing them to override some of the GMs decisions or spend this power on items, spells, levels, and any other items they chose. As the players continue to survive the GM grows increasingly powerful. Can you eventually outlast the gods attacks, or will your soul be snuffed out by their eternal rage? The Gods Wrath game mode will be accessed through the game servers list. You don’t need a group of friends to play anymore, since you can pair up with other players looking to battle a deity, or be that deity.

Its somewhere in the archives

World Master will come with the ability to search for games and campaigns, so that you can find a game that you’re looking for that fits your schedule. When a GM is looking for players they can put their campaign on the browser with information letting people know what kind of game it is. Things like tone, game system, play time, schedule, pictures and a description of the campaign are all an option. Gone are the days of searching for a group and coordinating times, since you can now search for a game that’s playing right now. Gods Wrath game modes can be hosted and quick joined through the browser. Game servers can also be hosted by the GM locally, if such is desired.

A machine isnt needed here

Not everyone has a computer or is willing to bring it to a session, which is completely understandable. World Master will use the next best thing and interface with mobile devices, so they can access a GMs data and interact with the world through the phone. A game board won’t be comfortable on a smaller screen and so only basic information like character sheets, notepads, calendars, and maps can be accessed through the phone. The players can still somewhat play through the phone though as they can edit their character, suggest damage and healing, speak in the game chat, and take advantage of some of the tools.

Shattered Infinity

World Master will come with its own game system that is designed to take advantage of the computers capabilities. Things like more modifiers, higher numbers, percentages, and other equations can be quickly performed by the computer without the need of crazy number dice rolls. Shattered Infinity can be compared to pathfinder, but with a focus on brutal realism. Characters have sanity, stress, hunger and thirst, resting needs, item degradation, magic destabilization, and other hardcore systems. Shattered Infinity is supposed to really test the players when it comes to tactics and planning. Everything can go wrong if the dice say so, but the player’s strategy can negate these negative effects with quick thinking. Shattered Infinity has its own story and world known as Lighthouse, and we plan on releasing more content and story as time goes on.
